Encore Apparel Company is a premium apparel line specializing in vintage clothing that supports local communities (www.encoreapparel.com).
The design for the company’s new headquarters is an adaptive reuse of a turn-of-the-century industrial structure located in the Charlestown Navy Yard.
Historically, the ramp-like concrete structure was used for shipbuilding. It extended the length of several city blocks to slip into Boston Harbor 300 yards away. Newly constructed vessels would roll down this "slipway" to hit the water for the first time.
Our finished retail space squeezes in beneath this ramp, showcasing the impressive underbelly of the concrete structure. Combined with industrial fixtures, reflective panels for thermal/acoustical insulation, and lumber reclaimed from less than a mile away, we create a backdrop that reflects the ideals of the company it exhibits.
