TERRACED HOUSE

This rear addition onto a 3-story house creates a new relationship between the house and the steeply sloped site which it overlooks.

The rear roof-line is extended downward, below what is considered "street level" in the front.  This establishes multiple terraced levels that merge into the hillside.  This new massing not only embraces the views, but also allows the dramatic topography to be occupied.
