TOWNHOUSE

Published in Boston Globe Magazine

This gut-renovation of a 3-story brick townhouse dating from 1855 re-configures the formal townhouse typology to accommodate a modern-day young family of 4.  The original front/back, formal/service relationships are dissolved to create open living within a vertical configuration.

Walls are removed or thickened so that everything becomes double-sided.  Programs are relocated and merged.  Porosity across the floor plan and multiple openings through the roof allow any zone to become a potential focal point for activity.
